Matt Scardigno (Port Washington, N.Y.) represented the Connecticut College men's cross country team at the 2024 NCAA Division III Men's & Women's Cross Country Championships on Saturday afternoon at the LaVern Gibson Cross Country Course.
In the second NCAA race of his career, Scardigno finished 54th in the field of 294 runners with a time of 24:54.9. At the 1K checkpoint he was 152nd overall but kept moving up the field. By the 5K mark he was in 70th, and before the finish line he made up 16 more spots to climb into the top-55.
Scardigno qualified for the race as an individual, based off his results from last week's NCAA Mideast Regional. He capped a strong final season for the Camels in which he earned All-NESCAC First Team and All-Region honors.
Wisconsin-La Crosse won the team title with 77 points, well ahead of runner-up Wartburg (173). Wisconsin-Whitewater's Christian Patzka took individual medalist honors with a time of 24:01.6, finishing two seconds ahead of Augsburg's Mohammed Bati.
