Game Recap: Women's Ice Hockey |

Women's Hockey Stumped by No. 4 Amherst

AMHERST, Mass. – The Connecticut College women's ice hockey team came up short on the road, falling to No. 4 Amherst 3-1 on Saturday afternoon from Orr Rink. With the loss, Conn falls to 0-4 overall and 0-4 in NESCAC play, while Amherst improves to 4-0 on the year and 4-0 in conference action.

Conn started quickly, as Claire Sammons (Naperville, Ill.) forced a save from Natalie Stott just over a minute in. Amherst answered 40 seconds later, but Devon Galizio (Wayland, Mass.) came up with the stop. However, the Mammoths opened the scoring at 7:01 on a tally from Maeve Reynolds. Conn pushed to try and equalize, but were unable to, trailing 1-0 after one.

Amherst started the middle frame on the front foot, peppering Galizio, but the junior netminder was up to the task. However, Amherst doubled the lead at 10:32 on a goal from Marie-Eve Marleau. Just over four minutes later, the Mammoths pushed the lead to 3-0 on Reynolds' second marker, a lead they took into the third.

Early in the third, Conn got on the board as Kiley Smith (Humble, Texas) connected with Casey Chesner (Great Falls, Va.) who buried the shot at 3:15 to make it 3-1. The Camels pushed over the final 16 plus minutes, but were unable to get any closer, falling 3-1.

Amherst outshot Conn 30-22, while winning 39 of 52 draws.

Galizio got the nod in net, finishing with 27 saves on 30 shots. Chesner recorded the lone goal, while Smith picked up the assist. Chesner and Caitlin Pierce (Edgewater, N.J.) led the way with three shots on goal each, while Ashley Engle (Basking Ridge, N.J.) and Serena Seiple (Wilmette, Ill.) won five draws. Conn finished the afternoon 2-2 on the penalty kill and 0-4 on the power play.

Natalie Stott picked up the win, recording 21 saves on 22 shots. Bea Flynn paced the Mammoths with three assists, while Reynolds added two goals and Marleau notched a goal and an assist. Amherst finished 0-2 on the power play and 4-4 on the penalty kill.

Conn closes out the short three game road trip on Tuesday, December 3 as the Camels head to Newport, R.I. to take on Salve Regina at 7:30 p.m.
