WBB Loses Close Battle at Babson

BABSON PARK, Mass. – Coming off a three-week layoff, the Connecticut College women's basketball team suffered a 57-53 setback against Babson College on Monday afternoon at Staake Gymnasium.

Sydney Marshall (Enfield, Conn.) paced the Camels season highs of 13 points, six rebounds and five blocks. Addi Hunter (Saint George, Vt.) chipped in 12 points, five boards and three assists while Catie Donadio (Clinton, Conn.) added 10 points, six rebounds and a pair of steals.

Babson opened the game with eight straight points and never trailed in the first half. The Beavers led by as many as nine in the stanza before settling in with a 30-22 lead at the break. Marshall kept the Camels in the game with 10 points before intermission to lead all scorers.

The Beavers bumped the lead to 11 early in the third quarter, but Conn responded with an 8-0 run that included a three-point play from Hunter and a three-pointer by Hallie O'Toole (Wilbraham, Mass.). Later, a layup by Hunter gave the Camels their first lead of the day at 36-35 with 3:17 to go in the period.

The lead changed hands twice more before the end of the quarter, with Babson pulling in front on a three-pointer by Katelyn Mollica. Catherine Cole (Lebanon, N.H.) then tied the game with a three of her own at the 1:37 mark, and a minute later she put the Camels on top with a layup. However, a buzzer-beater by Camilla Silk pulled the Beavers even at 41-41 heading into the final quarter.

Marshall provided the first basket of the fourth to give Conn the early advantage. After Allessia Carlo tied the game with a bucket in the paint, a three-point play by Emily Flynn put Babson on top for good at 46-43. Flynn scored seven points in the final 6:49 to keep the Camels at bay, and a pair of free throws by Chloe Perreault sealed the win for the Beavers in the waning moments.

Flynn led Babson (6-4 overall) with 13 points while Perreault supplied 12.

Conn (7-4 overall) will next host the University of Mount Saint Vincent on Friday, January 3 at 1:00 p.m.
