NEW YORK – The Connecticut College men's basketball team never got on track in an 88-46 setback against No. 10 New York University on Saturday afternoon at the John A. Paulson Center.
The Camels were limited to a season-low 25-percent shooting while the Violets checked in at just under 60 percent.
Matt Leaver (Norwell, Mass.) paced Conn with 10 points while
RJ Casey (Nashville, Tenn.) and
Elias Espinosa (Leonia, N.J.) added nine and eight, respectively.
Five minutes into the game, a three-pointer by Brock Susko ignited a 20-3 run for NYU. He later bookended the stretch—which lasted 8:07 of game time—with another three to put the Violets on top 28-9 with 6:14 left in the half.
The Camels went into the break trailing 40-15 after shooting 5-for-31 in the stanza. Casey accounted for both of Conn's three-pointers and had a team-high six points in the half.
NYU continued to pile up the points in the second half. Susko finished with a game-high 16 points, one of four Violets in double figures. A total of 13 NYU players found the scoring column on the day as the hosts improved to 7-0 on the season.
Leaver's 10 points were a season high. He shot 3-for-5 from the field and was a perfect 4-for-4 at the free throw line.
Conn (4-4 overall) will next host Mitchell College on Monday, December 9 at 7:00 p.m.
