CLINTON, N.Y. - The Connecticut College women's ice hockey team stormed back from a three goal deficit midway through the second period to earn a crucial 3-3 tie against No. 8 Hamilton College on Saturday afternoon from Russell Sage Rink. With the tie, Conn moves to 7-9-6 on the year and 2-9-3 in NESCAC play, while Hamilton moves to 13-4-5 overall and 6-4-4 in conference action.
Conn (7-9-6, 2-9-3 NESCAC) started the game with the first shot of the contest, but Jess Pistorino's (Charlestown, Mass.) effort was stopped. Hamilton (13-4-5, 6-4-4 NESCAC) responded with their first shot at 5:36 but Devon Galizio (Wayland, Mass.) made the save. The Continentals opened the scoring on the power play at 13:12 on a tally from Lydia Bullock. Hamilton doubled the lead in the final minute on a goal from Abby Smith, taking the 2-0 advantage after one.
Midway through the middle stanza, the Continentals pushed the lead to three on a goal from Ali Joseph at 10:21. Conn finally got on the board four and a half minutes later, at 14:57, as Serena Seiple (Wilmette, Ill.) found the back of the net off an assist from Claire Sammons (Naperville, Ill.) to make it 3-1 heading to the third period.
The Camels earned an early power play to start the third but were unable to capitalize. However, midway through, at 9:27, the lead got cut to one on a goal from Casey Godfrey (Redondo Beach, Calif.) with Sydney Cresta (Swampscott, Mass.) and Casey Chesner (Great Falls, Va.) earning the assists. Cresta found the back of the net at 14:46 to tie the game at three, off assists from Godfrey and Charlotte Harris (Ystrad Mynach, Wales). The Camels had a power play towards the end of regulation, but were unable to find the winner, as the game headed to overtime.
In the extra session, Conn recorded four shots on goal, while Hamilton notched two, but both goalies held strong, as the teams settled for the 3-3 tie.
Hamilton outshot Conn 39-18, while the Camels won 29 of 51 draws.
Galizio returned to the net, finishing the game strong, making 36 saves. Cresta and Godfrey led the way with a goal and an assist each, while Chesner, Harris, Sammons, and Seiple all added one point. Sydney Frank (Stillwater, N.Y.) tallied four shots on goal, while Cresta won 10 of 13 draws, as Conn went 4-5 on the penalty kill and 0-2 on the power play.
Mac Dononvan finished with 15 saves in net. Three Continentals recorded two points, while going 1-5 on the power play and 2-2 on the penalty kill.
Conn returns home for the final weekend of the regular season, hosting No. 12 Colby College in a crucial NESCAC matchup beginning Friday night at 7:00 p.m. in Dayton Arena.
