MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – The Connecticut College women's swimming and diving team picked up a 154-140 victory over Wesleyan University on Saturday afternoon at the Webster Family Natatorium.
A total of eight different Camels posted an individual win on the day. Conn, which improved to 4-5 in head-to-head meets, won nine of the 16 events and also posted eight runner-up finishes.
The Camels opened the meet with a win in the 200 medley relay. The team of
Jenna Charlat (Bedford, N.H.),
Ella Behling (Brookfield, Conn.),
Kate Edison (Westford, Mas.) and
Caitlin Foung (Montclair, N.J.) finished less than a half-second ahead of Wesleyan's top squad, and the result was an early 13-4 lead for the visitors.
Conn dominated the 1,000 free with the top-four finishers.
Stephanie Shawaryn (Moorestown, N.J.) led the group with a time of 11:05.17 and was followed by
Claire Hoffmann (Ho-Ho-Kus, N.J.),
Lauren Fitzharris (League City, Texas) and
Sofie Fitzgerald (Lawrenceville, N.J.).
Rosemary Bonadies (Nashville, Tenn.) posted the fastest time in the 100 back (59.99) and was the only competitor to break the one-minute barrier. Behling then touched the wall ahead of
Sarah Franco (Weston, Conn.) to win the 100 breast (1:09.58).
Kailin Fuller (Bowdoinham, Maine) turned in the top performance in the 50 free (25.45) while Charlat followed suit in the 200 back (2:07.84).
Leah Mayerhauser (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) enjoyed a strong outing on the boards, finishing first in the 1M (196.87) and second in the 3M.
The Camels finished the meet strong to secure the overall team victory.
Hannah Guay (Wakefield, Mass.) and
Marie-Eve Hebert (Princeton, N.J.) went 1-2 in the 500 free, with the former recording the winning time of 5:22.31. Franco then picked up some crucial points with a first-place finish and a personal-best time in the 100 IM (1:02.67).
Conn (4-5 overall) will next compete at the NESCAC Championship on February 15-18 at Middlebury College.
