Women's Hockey Set Back by #8 Hamilton

CLINTON, N.Y. - Hamilton College tallied a goal in each of the final two periods, as the Connecticut College women's hockey team fell to the No. 8 Continentals 2-0 on Friday night from Russell Sage Rink. With the loss, Conn falls to 7-9-5 on the year and 2-9-2 in NESCAC play, while Hamilton improves to 13-4-4 overall and 6-4-3 in conference action.

Conn (7-9-5, 2-9-2 NESCAC) started the game off strong, recording three shots on goal in the opening three minutes. Hamilton (13-4-4, 6-4-3 NESCAC) responded with offensive zone time, but were unable to get any shots through to Maeve Corcoran (Milton, Mass.). The Camels continued their strong defensive play, holding the Continentals to just four shots on goal, with the first coming at 13:12. Neither team found the net, as the game was scoreless after one.

The teams traded chances for much of the second period, but both goalies were strong. However, with just under a minute and a half remaining in the middle frame, Hamilton opened the scoring on a tally from Claire McGennis, to give the Continentals a 1-0 lead heading to the third period.

The Camels pushed in the third period, looking for the tying goal, but Teagan Brown and the Continentals held strong. With 2:55 remaining, Hamilton tallied an insurance marker, as Lydia Bullock made it 2-0. Conn pulled Corcoran for the extra attacker, but were unable to find the net, falling 2-0.

Conn outshot Hamilton 20-17, while winning 22 of 40 draws.

Corcoran made her first career start in goal, finishing with 15 saves. Claire Sammons (Naperville, Ill.) led the way with five shots on goal, while Miyu Miyazaki (Chiba, Japan) won eight of 10 face-offs. Conn blocked 16 shots on the night, led by Charlotte Harris (Ystrad Mynach, Wales) with four blocks and Abby Munger (Trinity, Fla.) with three, as Conn went 2-2 on the penalty kill and 0-3 on the power play.

Brown got the start in goal, making 20 saves. Bullock and McGennis tallied the goals, while Hamilton went 0-3 on the power play and 2-2 on the penalty kill.

Conn wraps up the weekend in Clinton, N.Y. finishing the weekend series with No. 8 Hamilton College tomorrow at 3:00 p.m.
