Men's Tennis Nabs First Win of the Spring

ORLANDO, Fla. – The Connecticut College men's tennis team picked up its first win of the spring season on Monday morning by a 9-0 final over the University of Northwestern (MN) at the USTA National Campus.

A total of 12 Conn players contributed to the victory. After taking all three doubles points, the Camels cruised to straight-set wins at all six singles spots.

The three doubles matches were all competitive, none more so than at the No. 1 position where Arjun Premkumar (Bangalore, India) and Jules Taylor-Kerman (New York, N.Y.) outlasted the duo of Stewart Morrell and Jacob Weddle. With the match squared at 7-7, the Camels prevailed in a tiebreaker by a 7-3 tally.

The team of Aaron Fleishman (Brookline, Mass.) and Jared Leong (Petaling Jaya, Malaysia) picked up an 8-5 win at No. 2. Walker Mulligan (Guilford, Conn.) and James Serhant III (Hadley, Mass.) followed suit at No. 3, winning by an 8-4 margin.

In singles action, Gavin Anderson (Avon, Conn.) topped Morrell in a first-set tiebreaker en route to a 7-6 (7-5), 6-2 win at No. 1. Sigmund Winiecki (Jaffrey, N.H.) nabbed his first collegiate singles victory at No. 2, and Colby Hall (Duxbury, Mass.) made quick work of Carson Haack at No. 3. Andy Feldman (Newton, Mass.) and Nikhil Agarwal (San Mateo, Calif.) both won by 6-2, 6-3 finals at No. 4 and 5, respectively, while Krishh Tipniss (Thane, India) sealed the shutout at No. 6.

Conn (2-3 overall, 0-3 NESCAC) will next face the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor on March 12 at 10:00 a.m.
