Women's Tennis Splits with Mary Hardin-Baylor, Sweet Briar

ORLANDO, Fla. – The Connecticut College women's tennis team secured a 6-3 victory over the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor on Tuesday morning at the Fee Avenue Tennis Courts.

The Camels took two out of three doubles matches and tacked on four singles wins to best the Cru. Caitlin Cass (Newcastle, Maine), Courtney Banks (North Haven, Conn.) and Maya Kowalska (Feasterville-Trevose, Pa.) each contributed wins in singles and doubles to set the tone.

The duo of Banks and Kowalska triumphed by an 8-4 final at No. 1 doubles, while Cass teamed with Lily Kerachsky (East Greenwich, R.I.) to grab an 8-2 win at the No. 2 spot. In singles action, Cass won in straight sets at the top position while Banks and Kowalska cruised at No. 3 and 4, respectively. Mary Ella Prendergast (Mount Pleasant, S.C.) also picked up a straight-sets victory at No. 6 in her collegiate singles debut.

Later in the day, Conn took on Sweet Briar College and suffered a 5-3 setback at the USTA National Campus.

Cass and Kerachsky picked up another win at No. 2 doubles, posting an 8-3 final against the duo of Maria Caro and Isabela Guilarte. Cass and Kowalska also secured singles victories in straight sets, but the Camels lost three other singles matches in third-set tiebreakers. 

Conn (3-4 overall, 0-2 NESCAC) will next face Franklin & Marshall College on Wednesday, March 13 at 6:00 p.m.
