NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Connecticut College men's lacrosse team dropped a 10-8 decision to Trinity College on a rainy Wednesday night in NESCAC action at Silfen Field.
The Bantams built a 10-4 lead with 13:32 left in the fourth quarter and held off the Camels down the stretch, picking up their sixth-straight win to improve to 9-4 overall (5-3 NESCAC). Matt Pecora led the attack with three goals while Bo Page added a goal and two assists.
JJ Ford (Clinton, Conn.) recorded a hat trick to lead the Camels while
Lorenzo Vogliano (New York, N.Y.) and
Bobby Chang (South Salem, N.Y.) added two goals apiece. Goalie
Will Rice (New Rochelle, N.Y.) made 13 saves on the night to keep Conn in the game.
Trinity never trailed after jumping out to a 5-1 lead in the opening quarter. Five different Bantams scored in the period, but a goal by Ford in the final seconds cut the deficit to three.
The momentum stayed with the Camels in the second quarter, as goals by Vogliano and
Jack Tenzer (Charlotte, N.C.) cut the margin to 5-4 midway through the stanza. However, Trinity picked up a goal with 1:18 remaining in the half, and Conn was whistled for a late penalty that carried over into the second half.
The Bantams started man-up in the third quarter but couldn't take advantage, as a save by Rice allowed the Camels to gain possession and kill off the 60-second penalty. Despite being denied, Trinity went on to outscore Conn 3-0 in the period behind two goals from Pecora.
In the fourth quarter, an extra-man goal by Davis Burleson gave the Bantams their biggest lead of the night at 10-4. Ford then recorded a pair of goals in less than a minute to jump-start the Camels, and Chang added his first marker with 8:47 left to make it a 10-7 game.
Conn kept pressing for another goal but it was slow to come, as Ford sent a shot off the post and Trinity goalie Jordan Opdahl made two of his 12 saves. Chang tacked on the final goal of the night with 28 seconds to play, and the Camels ultimately ran out of time.
Conn (4-7 overall, 1-7 NESCAC) will next host Hamilton College on Saturday, April 20 at noon.
