NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Connecticut College women's tennis team gave Trinity College all it could handle on Saturday afternoon, but suffered a 5-4 setback in NESCAC action at the CC Tennis Courts.
The Camels got off to a good start, winning two of three doubles matches to jump out to a 2-1 advantage. However, the Bantams (5-11 overall, 2-7 NESCAC) captured four of the six singles matches to pull out the win.
Conn prevailed at No. 2 and 3 doubles to snatch the early lead. The tandem of
Lily Kerachsky (East Greenwich, R.I.) and
Caitlin Cass (Newcastle, Maine) downed Angelina Shyltsyna and Elise Brennan by an 8-2 final, and the duo of
Ella Griffiths (Concord, Mass.) and
Sana Bhat (New Delhi) prevailed 8-3 over Kennedy White and Naisha Rathi.
Both Cass and Bhat went on to win their singles matches, the former at No. 1 and the latter at No. 5. Cass trumped Josephine Kimball by 6-3, 6-4 counts while Bhat topped Rathi by 6-2, 6-3 finals. The two also picked up their seventh singles victories of the season.
Courtney Banks (North Haven, Conn.) nearly led the Camels to victory against Elise Brennan at No. 4 singles. She lost the first set via a tiebreaker and battled hard in the second before falling by final tallies of 7-6 (8-6), 7-5.
Prior to the match, the Camels honored their four seniors—Griffiths, Banks,
Caroline Champa (Boston, Mass.) and
Teagan O'Hara (Woodstock, Conn.)—in a special ceremony.
Conn (7-11 overall, 0-9 NESCAC) will wrap up the regular season at No. 3 Wesleyan University on Sunday April 28 at 2:00 p.m.
