NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Connecticut College men's tennis team dropped a 9-0 decision to No. 3 Williams College on Saturday afternoon at the CC Tennis Courts.
The Camels, who came into the day riding a seven-match win streak and ranked 45th in the country, couldn't shake off the rust against the Ephs. Conn's last match came 15 days ago against Bates, and the long lay-off didn't help against one of the top teams in the nation.
Williams (10-1 overall, 4-0 NESCAC) didn't drop more than three games in any of the three doubles matches to take a 3-0 advantage early. The Ephs carried the momentum into singles action and completed the sweep by winning five out of six matches in straight sets.
Jules Taylor-Kerman (New York, N.Y.) put up a strong fight at No. 2 singles, taking the first set against Shawn Berdia by a 6-4 final. Berdia rebounded in the second set and later edged Taylor-Kerman 10-8 in a tiebreaker to decide the match.
Jared Leong (Petaling Jaya, Malaysia) also hung with Simon Volkema at the No. 3 spot, but lost by 7-5, 7-5 finals.
Conn (8-4 overall, 1-4 NESCAC) returns to action at home against No. 11 Middlebury College on Sunday, April 7 at 2:00 p.m.
