NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Connecticut College women's ice hockey team battled back late, but fell to Hamilton 2-1 on Friday night from Dayton Arena. With the win Conn falls to 6-9 overall and 2-7 in conference play, while Hamilton improves to 8-8-1 on the year and 3-5-1 in NESCAC play.
Hamilton jumped out of the gates quickly. After forcing an early save from Devon Galizio (Wayland, Mass.), the Continentals opened the scoring at 3:05. A puck was played around the boards and chipped into the path of Jamie Porter who found the back of the net to make it 1-0. Conn slowly built their way into the contest, but was unable to even the score, trailing 1-0 after the first.
Hamilton opened the middle frame forcing another two early saves from Galizio, before Conn had a great look at tying the game. Charlotte Harris (Ystrad Mynach, Wales) threw a puck on net, before Bridget McGann (West Hartford, Conn.) followed up with two whacks at the puck, but the Camels couldn't poke it past Teegan Brown. Conn had a couple of more chances late in the period, but continued to trail 1-0 heading to the third.
The first half of the final period was back-and-forth with both goalies continuing their strong play. However, it was the Continentals that found the next goal. A puck got poked into the slot by Ali Joseph finding its way to Abby Weiss who made it 2-0 at 13:41. Conn continued to push, ultimately pulling Galizio for the extra skater with two minutes remaining. With the extra attacker, the Camels finally got on the board. Serena Seiple (Wilmette, Ill.) found Elizabeth Bonner (Westfield, N.J.) who fired home with 20 seconds left to make it 2-1. Conn was unable to generate anything else, falling 2-1.
Conn outshot Hamilton 24-18, while the Continentals won 21 of 39 draws.
Galizio got the start in net, recording 16 saves. Bonner tallied the only goal, while Seiple picked up the lone helper. Kate Hagness (Maddison, Conn.), McGann, and Seiple led the way with three shots on goal apiece. Harris led the way in the circle winning six draws, while Conn finished 2-2 on the penalty kill and 0-3 on the power play.
Brown got the win in goal, finishing with 23 saves. Five different Continentals recorded one point, led by Porter and Weiss each recording a goal, while Hamilton went 0-2 on the power play and 3-3 on the penalty kill.
