Women's Ice Hockey Cruises Past Wesleyan 4-1

NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Connecticut College women's ice hockey team scored the first four goals of the game and cruised to a 4-1 win over visiting Wesleyan on Friday night from Dayton Arena. With the win Conn improves to 7-9-1 overall and 3-7-1 in conference play, while Wesleyan falls to 7-12 on the year and 2-9 in conference action.

Conn blitzed Wesleyan in the opening period, opening the scoring just over five minutes in. Serena Seiple (Wilmette, Ill.) tapped in a pass at the backdoor off assists from Bridget McGann (West Hartford, Conn.) and Charlotte Harris (Ystrad Mynach, Wales) to make it 1-0. Just 50 seconds later, the Camels doubled the lead, as Lily Stern (Nove Zamky, Slovakia) fired a shot over the shoulder of Jenna Guglielmi, with Caitlin Pierce (Edgewater, N.J.) and Claire Sammons (Naperville, Ill.) picking up the helpers. Conn outshot Wesleyan 13-2 in the first period, as the Camels led 2-0 after one.

Conn continued their strong play to start the middle frame, pushing the lead to three at 4:05. Jess Pistorino (Charlestown, Mass.) had her shot blocked, but Ashley Engle (Basking Ridge, N.J.) was able to poke home the rebound and extend the lead. Just over a minute later, the Camels got another goal. Pierce was sprung on a breakaway with the initial shot getting stopped, but Alana Burm (Hingham, Mass.) followed up with the rebound making it 4-0. However, with just three seconds remaining, Wesleyan was able to get on the board as Dylan Green found the back of the net on a goalmouth scramble, as Conn led 4-1 heading to the third.

The Cardinals had a good chance early in the final period to cut the deficit, earning a power play, but Devon Galizio (Wayland, Mass.) stayed sharp, with three quick saves. Wesleyan continued to push, trying to get back into the game, but the Camels held strong to come away with the 4-1 win.

Wesleyan outshot Conn 32-29, while winning 26 of 47 face-offs.

Galizio was sharp in goal, finishing with 31 saves. Pierce led the way with two assists, while Burm, Engle, Seiple, and Stern all added one goal, with Casey Chesner (Great Falls, Va.),Harris, McGann, Pistorino, and Sammons all picking up one assist.
