Volleyball Picks Up Big Win at Amherst

AMHERST, Mass. — The Connecticut College women's volleyball team grabbed a 3-1 victory over Amherst College on Friday night in a NESCAC showdown at LeFrak Gymnasium.

The Camels got the better of the Mammoths for the second consecutive season, winning by final scores of 25-16, 21-25, 25-19 and 25-20. Conn also picked up its first road win in the series since 2012.

Vibha Sheth (Austin, Texas) turned in her best performance of the season, finishing with a match-high 19 kills while hitting .486 on the night. Grace Anderson (Pawling, N.Y.) added nine kills while Rae Wartelle (Tacoma, Wash.) tacked on eight kills and a career-best seven service aces. Aubrie Letourneau (Mattapoisett, Mass.) set the tone with 42 assists and 12 digs while Taylor Merrifield (Honolulu, Hawaii) led all players with 23 digs.

The two sides traded runs in the opening set, with the Camels taking control behind a 14-3 spurt that included a pair of kills from both Anderson and Zoe Watts (Chicago, Ill.). After Amherst used an 8-0 burst to trim the deficit to four, Conn closed out the set with a 7-1 sprint that was highlighted by two more kills by Anderson.

Amherst evened the match in the second set but soon ran out of answers. Sheth took over for Conn in the final two sets with a combined 13 kills, eight of which came in the fourth. The Camels finished off the third set behind a 7-1 run and later pulled ahead for good in the fourth thanks to a 12-4 rally. Sheth provided the exclamation point with kills to secure the visitors' final two points of the match.

The Camels currently sit in eighth place in the NESCAC standings with three matches remaining in the regular season. The top eight schools in the standings will qualify for the 2025 NESCAC Championship, which begins on November 8.

Conn (10-8 overall, 2-5 NESCAC) will next play at Hamilton College on Saturday, October 18 at 2:00 p.m.
