Volleyball Extends Winning Streak at Emerson

BOSTON — The Connecticut College women's volleyball team picked up its fourth-straight win with a 3-2 victory over Emerson College on Saturday afternoon at Brown & Plofker Gym.

The Camels overcame a 2-1 deficit to win by set scores of 23-25, 25-13, 19-25, 25-22 and 15-13. Grace Anderson (Pawling, N.Y.) turned in 19 kills for the second consecutive match, and Rae Wartelle (Tacoma, Wash.) and Riley Lord (Exeter, N.H.) chipped in 11 kills apiece as Conn earned its third-straight road win.

Aubrie Letourneau (Mattapoisett, Mass.) paced the offense with a season-high 52 assists and added eight digs. Taylor Merrifield (Honolulu, Hawaii) led the defensive effort with a match-high 14 digs, and Dylan Kokkinos (Aurora, Ill.) tacked on eight digs and four service aces.

In the opening set, a 7-0 run by the Lions included four service aces from Lauren Yoo and put the hosts in front 18-15. Emerson didn't trail again, although a kill by Anderson and an ace by Kokkinos tightened things up at 24-23. However, a Conn attack error yielded set point and gave the Lions a 1-0 lead in the match.

The Camels bounced back with 15 kills and five aces in the second set to even the match. In the third, Rachel Dickerson supplied six kills as Emerson went back on top.

Tied at 16-16 in the fourth, the Camels got contributions from Anderson, Wartelle and Lord down the stretch. Anderson supplied four kills during the span while Wartelle and Lord combined for three.

Playing in a fifth set for the sixth time this season, Conn took a 6-3 lead on the serve of Caroline Festersen (Omaha, Neb.) and never trailed again. Anderson stayed hot with five kills in the finale, and a kill by Lord wrapped up match point for the Camels.

Conn (12-8 overall) will next host Bowdoin College on Friday, October 31 at 7:00 p.m.
