NEW LONDON, Conn. – Serena Seiple (Wilmette, Ill.) notched a career-high four points and the Connecticut College women's ice hockey team completed the weekend sweep of Trinity with a 6-0 win on Saturday night from Dayton Arena.
Conn started quickly jumping in front just 7:20 in the contest. Alana Burm (Hingham, Mass.) and Casey Chesner (Great Falls, Va.) connected before finding Seiple who fired to make it 1-0. The Camels continued their strong play, extending the lead five minutes later. This time Seiple found Chesner who made it 2-0 after the first.
The momentum continued for Conn early into the middle frame, as the Camels pushed the lead to 3-0 just 3:20 in as Seiple snuck a shot past Katie Lemke. Conn continued to control the play, and midway through the period made it 4-0. Jess Pistorino (Charlestown, Mass.) forced a turnover at center ice, with the loose puck falling to Christine Oar (Scituate, Mass.) who made no mistake on the breakaway. The Camels closed out the rest of the period to lead 4-0 heading to the third.
Trinity upped the pressure in the third period looking to get on the board. The Bantams recorded the first five shots of the frame, all in the opening 10 minutes, but Devon Galizio (Wayland, Mass.) turned them all aside. With just under five minutes remaining Maya Lileika (Fairfield, Conn.) used an outlet pass to Bridget McGann (West Hartford, Conn.) who skated into the Trinity zone and fired home to make it 5-0. Conn got a late power play, and with time ticking down, Oar and Seiple played catch behind the Bantams net, before Seiple found Sofia Donnelly (Ringwood, N.J.) at the point who fired home, beating the buzzer to give the Camels the 6-0 win.
Conn outshot Trinity 31-14, while the Bantams won 30 of 50 face-offs.
Galizio picked up the shutout victory in net, finishing with 14 saves. Seiple led the way with four points on two goals and two assists. Chesner and Oar both added one goal and one assist each, as Donnelly and McGann both chipped in one goal, and Burm and Lileika notched one assist. Conn went 2-2 on the penalty kill and 1-4 on the power play.
Lemke got the start in net finishing with 25 saves for Trinity.
Conn (2-0, 2-0 NESCAC) returns to action on Friday night as the Camels host Amherst at 7:00 p.m. in Dayton Arena.
