NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Connecticut College women's swimming and diving team wrapped up a 184-110 victory over Wesleyan University on Saturday afternoon at Lott Natatorium.
Less than 18 hours after posting a road win at Wheaton, the Camels had plenty left in the tank against their NESCAC foes. Conn won 12 of the 14 swimming events—including both relays—en route to its second win of the weekend.
Hope Lane (Swarthmore, Pa.) and
Ella Behling (Brookfield, Conn.) set the tone with a pair of wins each.
Kailin Fuller (Bowdoinham, Maine) supplied a solo win while also contributing to both winning relay squads.
Rosemary Bonadies (Nashville, Tenn.),
Campbell Baumgartner (Charlotte, N.C.),
Tessa Gordon (Cottage Grove, Wis.) and Fuller kicked off the meet with a win in the 200 medley relay (1:51.19). The Camels then took the top three spots in the 1,000 free, headed by a strong effort by
Stephanie Shawaryn (Moorestown, N.J.) with a winning time of 11:01.66. Lane tacked on her first win of the day in the 200 free (1:59.32), giving Conn a 40-21 lead after only three events.
Behling's wins came in the 100 breast (1:08.89) and 200 breast (2:28.39), where she touched the wall ahead of teammates in each event. Conn took the top-4 places in the 200 fly—led by
Lauren Multari (Hamilton, N.J.) with a time of 2:18.68—and Fuller recorded the fastest time in the 50 free (25.27).
Lane's second win came in the 100 free (55.05) ahead of two teammates, and
Jenna Charlat (Bedford, N.H.) turned in the fastest time in the 200 back (2:10.51).
Kate Edison (Westford, Mass.) and Baumgartner posted the final two individual wins of the day in the 100 fly (59.67) and 200 IM (2:13.74), respectively.
The Camels wrapped up the meet in style with a victory in the 200 free relay. The squad of
Morganne Young (Longwood, Fla.), Fuller, Gordon and Edison posted a winning time of 1:42.26, just ahead of the team of
Hannah Guay (Wakefield, Mass.),
Keira Haas (Berwyn, Pa.), Lane and Shawaryn.
Prior to the meet, the Camels honored four seniors—Guay,
Sofie Fitzgerald (Lawrenceville, N.J.),
Claire Hoffmann (Ho-Ho-Kus, N.J.) and
Zosha Trzewik-Quinn (New Paltz, N.Y.)—in a special ceremony. The group competed in the final home meet of their four-year careers.
Conn will next compete at the NESCAC Championship on February 13-16 in Waterville, ME.
