CLINTON, N.Y. – The Connecticut College men's ice hockey team hit the road for the last time in the regular season, falling to No. 9 Hamilton 3-0 on Saturday from Sage Rink.. With the loss, Conn falls to 8-13-1 overall and 6-10 in conference play, while Hamilton improves to 16-5-1 on the year and 12-3-1 in NESCAC action.
Will McEvoy (Ottawa, Ontario) was busy in the opening minutes as Hamilton recorded the first five shots of the contest, but the junior was sharp early. Jack Luca (Milton, Mass.) tallied Conn's first shot, but Charlie Archer answered with the save. The Continentals opened the scoring with just over five minutes remaining. Justin Biraben's point shot was stopped by McEvoy, but the rebound fell to Carson Hall on the back post who poked it home to make it 1-0 after one.
The Camels had an early look in the middle frame while shorthanded, but Will Winship (Andover, Mass.) was stopped by Archer. Hamilton doubled the lead at 8:30 on a maker from Jackson Krock. Conn answered with back-to-back shots by Michael DiMascolo (Cranston, R.I.) and Quinn Kennedy (Silver Springs, Md.) but both were denied by Archer. The Continentals added a third with a minute left in the period, as Biraben's point shot got through to give Hamilton the 3-0 lead heading to the third.
Hamilton continued to put pressure on the Camels, forcing multiple early saves from McEvoy, who kept the deficit at three. Conn had a chance to get on the board midway through the frame, after earning a power play, but the Camels were unable to convert. Conn had one more chance to find a goal, ending the game on the power play, but the Camels couldn't convert, falling 3-0.
Hamilton outshot Conn 48-25, while the Camels held a 33-28 advantage on face-off wins.
McEvoy was solid in net again, finishing with 45 saves. Kennedy paced the Camels with seven shots on goal, while Devan Newhook (Saint John's, Newfoundland) had a team-high four blocked shots. John Russo (South Windsor, Conn.) won 16 face-offs, as Conn finished 1-2 on the penalty kill and 0-3 on the power play.
Archer picked up the win in goal, finishing with 25 saves. Biraben led the Continentals with two points on a goal and an assist, while Hamilton finished 1-2 on the power play and 3-3 on the penalty kill.
Conn returns home next for the final weekend of the regular season, as the Camels host Bowdoin at 7:00 p.m. in Dayton Arena on Friday night.
