Kennedy's Third Period Tally Leads Men's Hockey Past Bowdoin 2-1

NEW LONDON, Conn. – Quinn Kennedy (Silver Springs, Md.) scored the go-ahead goal 1:01 into the third period and the Connecticut College men's ice hockey team hung on to defeat visiting Bowdoin 2-1 on Friday night from Dayton Arena. Conn improves to 9-13-1 overall and 7-10 in conference play, while Bowdoin falls to 9-11-3 on the year and 7-7-3 in NESCAC action.

It was a slow start for both teams, with just eight combined shots in the opening 15 minutes. However, the first opportunity for either side came as Conn earned a power play at 15:38. After Steven Ardagna's (Roswell, Ga.) shot was stopped, Will Winship (Andocer, Mass.) was able to push the puck over to John Russo (South Windsor, Conn.) who fired home to give the Camels a 1-0 lead after one.

The intensity picked up in the second period, as Bowdoin put an early barrage on Conn netminder Will McEvoy (Ottawa, Ontario). McEvoy was up to the task however, keeping the Polar Bears at bay. The teams traded chances for the rest of the period, but McEvoy and his counterpart Jacob Osborne kept the game as it was, with the Camels in front 1-0 heading to the third.

Bowdoin took advantage of an early missed call, as Jack Moore collected a loose puck before beating McEvoy to even the score just 34 seconds in. However, the tie was short lived, as just 37 seconds later the Camels went back in front. Andrew Eberling (Mount Laurel, N.J.) fed a pass across to Matt Lewis (Pembroke, Mass.), Lewis shot towards the goal, hitting Kennedy in the stomach, as the puck fell into the net, to make it 2-1. Bowdoin pushed, trying to even the score again, pulling Osborne with 2:44 to play. With the empty net, Conn blocked five shots, while McEvoy added three saves, as the Camels held on for the 2-1 victory.

Bowdoin outshot Conn 26-23, while holding a slime 33-32 edge on face-off wins.

McEvoy continued his strong play in net, picking up the win with 25 saves. Kennedy and Russo led the way with both recording a goal, while Ardagna, Eberling, Lewis, and Winship all adding an assist. Russo led the way with 13 face-off wins, as Conn went 1-4 on the power play and 2-2 on the penalty kill.

Osborne finished with 21 saves in goal. Moore tallied the lone goal for Bowdoin as the Polar Bears went 0-2 on the power play and 3-4 on the penalty kill.

Conn wraps up the regular season tomorrow afternoon, as the Camels host Colby at 3:00 p.m. in Dayton Arena.
