NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Connecticut College men's tennis team opened the spring season in style, securing a 5-2 win over No. 40 Colby College on Saturday afternoon in NESCAC action at Luce Field House.
The Camels picked up the doubles point with wins at the No. 2 and 3 spots, and then followed with singles victories at Nos. 3-6 to knock off the Mules. Walker Mulligan (Guilford, Conn.) and Wolf Sohlberg (Espoo, Finland) teamed up for a doubles win and went on to earn points in singles action as well.
Both doubles victories came by 7-5 finals for the Camels. Mulligan and Sohlberg took down Diego Sosa and Aidan Kwong at No. 2, and Krishh Tipnis (Thane, India) and Sigmund Winiecki (Jaffrey, N.H.) got past Jason Daly and Josh Kaplan at No. 3.
Colby picked off wins at No. 1 and 2 singles to pull into the lead, but Mulligan outlasted Sosa in three sets to even the match at 2-2. The Camels then swept through the remaining three contests, with Nikhil Agarwal (San Mateo, Calif.) and Gavin Anderson (Avon, Conn.) posting straight sets wins at No. 4 and 6, respectively. Sohlberg, facing Kaplan at No. 5, split sets and won in a 10-point tiebreaker.
Conn (4-1 overall, 1-1 NESCAC) will next host Bowdoin College on Sunday, March 2 at 2:00 p.m.
