Women's Tennis Clipped in Season Opener vs. Colby

NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Connecticut College women's tennis team opened the spring season with a 4-3 setback against Colby College on Saturday morning in a NESCAC clash inside Luce Field House.

The Mules won two of three doubles matches to secure the first point of the day. The Camels evened the score by winning two of the first three singles matches, but Colby took two of the final three singles points to secure the victory.

Conn's top duo of Evin Cosar (Shrewsbury, Mass.) and Maya Kowalska (Feasterville-Trevose, Pa.) picked up a 7-5 win at No. 1 doubles. Both also supplied straight-set wins in singles action, with Kowalska topping Michaela Landry at No. 2 and Cosar defeating Anna Rende at No. 5.

The lone match that required a third set came at No. 1 singles between Caitlin Cass (Newcastle, Maine) and Jade Finestone. Cass breezed to a 6-1 victory in the opening set but dropped the second by a 3-6 tally. However, she bounced back to win the deciding set by a 6-4 final.

Conn (0-1 overall, 0-1 NESCAC) will next host Bowdoin College on Sunday, March 2 at 9:30 a.m.
