ORLANDO, Fla. – The Connecticut College women's tennis team opened its spring trip with a split against Franklin & Marshall College and Ohio Northern University on Tuesday.
The Camels dropped a 6-1 decision to F&M in the morning session but bounced back to clip ONU by a 4-3 final in the nightcap. A total of 13 Conn College players saw action on the day.
In the win over ONU, the Camels posted wins at Nos. 1 and 2 doubles to take an early 1-0 advantage.
Mary Ella Prendergast (Mount Pleasant, S.C.) and
Asahi Goods (Putnam Valley, N.Y.) clinched straight set victories at Nos. 5 and 6 singles, respectively, and
Caitlin Cass (Newcastle, Maine) supplied the winning point with a 7-5, 6-4 victory at the top spot. Cass trailed 3-1 in the second set but rallied to win five of the final six games to push Conn over the top.
Conn's lone point against F&M came at No. 6 singles, where
Henrietta Waltz (Lincoln, Mass.) won by a 6-2, 6-3 final.
Conn (1-4 overall) will next play Millsaps College on Wednesday, March 12 in Orlando, Fla.
