ORLANDO, Fla. – The Connecticut College men's tennis team picked up a pair of wins on a busy Thursday, beating Franklin & Marshall College by a 4-1 final in the morning and securing a 5-2 victory over Hampden-Sydney College in the afternoon.
Conn kicked off the morning sessions with wins at Nos. 2 and 3 doubles to go up 1-0 in the match.
James Serhant III (Hadley, Mass.) and
Jules Taylor-Kerman (New York, N.Y.) won by a 6-4 tally while
Krishh Tipnis (Thane, India) and
Sigmund Winiecki (Jaffrey, N.H.) won by a 7-5 count.
The Camels won three of the four completed singles matches to sew up the win. Winiecki and
Tucker Catalano (Duxbury, Mass.) won in straight sets at Nos. 3 and 6, respectively, while Serhant won in a 10-point tiebreaker at No. 4.
Nikhil Agarwal (San Mateo, Calif.) and
Gavin Anderson (Avon, Conn.) both led in their matches at the top two spots but couldn't complete them in the allotted time frame.
Conn followed a similar script in the afternoon, again taking a 1-0 advantage thanks to doubles wins by the duos of
Walker Mulligan (Guilford, Conn.) and
Kalevi Kaukonen (Mill Valley, Calif.) at No. 2 and Catalano and
Colby Hall (Duxbury, Mass.) at No. 3. In singles action, both Taylor-Kerman and Agarwal won in 10-point tiebreakers while
Wolf Sohlberg (Espoo, Finland) and Anderson won in straight sets.
Conn (7-4 overall) will next play Skidmore College on Friday, March 14 at 7:30 a.m.
