ORLANDO, Fla. – The Connecticut College men's tennis team split a pair of matches against Skidmore College and the University of Saint Joseph on Friday.
The Camels opened the day with a 6-1 setback against Skidmore but bounced back for a 5-2 victory against USJ later in the day. Conn improved to 4-2 on the trip with one match left on the slate before returning home.
Sigmund Winiecki (Jaffrey, N.H.) picked up the lone point in the morning session against Skidmore. He outlasted Harrison Gradin in three sets, winning by a 6-4, 1-6, 6-4 final.
The Camels had better results in the afternoon matchup with the Blue Jays, sweeping all three doubles contests while taking four of six singles matches. Winiecki supplied a pair of points, teaming with
Krishh Tipnis (Thane, India) to win 6-0 at No. 3 doubles before posting a straight set win at No. 4 singles.
James Serhant III (Hadley, Mass.) and
Jules Taylor-Kerman (New York, N.Y.) won by a 7-5 tally at No. 2 doubles. Taylor-Kerman then won at the top spot in singles while Serhant dropped only one game at No. 5.
Walker Mulligan (Guilford, Conn.) also accounted for two points, nabbing a win at No. 1 doubles with
Wolf Sohlberg (Espoo, Finland) before pitching a shutout at No. 3 singles.
Tucker Catalano (Duxbury, Mass.) provided the final point at No. 6 singles, improving to 2-0 on the season.
Conn (8-5 overall) will next play Coe College on Sunday, March 16 at 3:30 p.m.
