BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Connecticut College men's lacrosse team dropped a 22-12 decision to No. 7 Bowdoin College on Saturday afternoon in NESCAC action at Whittier Field.
Nick McLaughlin (Wilbraham, Mass.) and
Aidan McAvoy (Charlotte, N.C.) each recorded hat tricks for the Camels, but it wasn't enough against one of the top-scoring offenses in the conference. The Polar Bears, who notched a season-high 22 goals, were led by Patrick Fitzgerald's five markers.
McLaughlin got the Camels off to a good start, scoring on a feed from
Zach Bucher (Verona, N.J.) just 28 seconds into the contest. The advantage was short lived, however, as Bowdoin responded with five straight goals over a six-minute stretch to take control.
A goal by Cormac Walsh extended the Polar Bears' lead to 8-3 by the end of the first quarter. Both McLaughlin and Bucher added tallies in the second, but Bowdoin pushed the margin to 12-5 by halftime.
McLaughlin opened the second-half scoring to complete his hat trick, and McAvoy netted all three of his goals after intermission.
Andrew Rainville (Watertown, Conn.) tacked on a pair of scores in the fourth quarter, but it wasn't enough to put a dent in Bowdoin's lead.
JJ Ford (Clinton, Conn.) found the back of the net twice while
Sean McCarthy (West Roxbury, Mass.) also contributed a goal on the day.
Will Vivian (Slingerlands, N.Y.) got the starting nod in goal and made a career-high 18 saves while scooping up five ground balls.
Bowdoin finished with a 61-31 in total shots and held a 45-27 in ground balls. Goalies Robert Hobbs and Alec Delgado combined to make nine stops for the Polar Bears, who improved to 5-0 (3-0 NESCAC) on the season.
Conn (2-2 overall, 1-2 NESCAC) will next host Nichols College on Monday, March 17 at 4:00 p.m.
