NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Connecticut College men's lacrosse team cruised to a 23-10 victory over Coast Guard Academy on Tuesday night at Cadet Memorial Field.
Liam Horkan (Malden, Mass.) had a game to remember, netting a career-high eight goals to lead Conn's attack. The junior also recorded his 100th career point on the night, becoming the second Camel to reach the milestone this season.
Ten other Camels also found the scoring column in the contest.
Aidan McAvoy (Charlotte, N.C.) finished with four goals and three assists while
Andrew Rainville (Watertown, Conn.) and
Graydon Diamond (New Canaan, Conn.) added two goals apiece.
Will Vivian (Slingerlands, N.Y.) picked up the win in goal, making three saves in the opening half.
Patrick Hogan (Wyckoff, N.J.) played most of the second half and stopped three shots, and
Mike Delhome (Belmont, Mass.) closed out the victory with his first appearance of the year in the cage.
The game was close after the first quarter of play, with a tally by
JJ Ford (Clinton, Conn.) giving the Camels a 5-4 advantage by the end of the period. Horkan scored twice in the stanza while Rainville and
Ryan Breheny (Bridgewater, Mass.) also added markers.
Conn took control in the second quarter, outscoring the Bears by a 6-2 margin. Horkan outdid the hosts on his own with three more tallies before the break. The Camels scored five straight before Coast Guard's Ryan Hunter broke the streak with seconds left in the half, pulling the Bears to within 11-6 at intermission.
The Camels broke the game open in the third quarter with seven more goals, three of which came from McAvoy. Horkan ended the period with a pair of man-up tallies—the first off a feed from Breheny, and the second courtesy of McAvoy—to reach the 100-point milestone in his 39th career game.
Horkan added his final goal early in the fourth to cap his night. Diamond then gave the Camels their biggest lead at 20-10, and
Lorenzo Vogliano (New York, N.Y.),
Cole Ronan (Northport, N.Y.) and
Daniel Smith (Smithfield, R.I.) each added scores in the final minute to give Conn its highest goal total since 2019.
Conn (7-6 overall) will next play at Hamilton College on Saturday, April 19 at 1:00 p.m.
