NEW LONDON, Conn. – The No. 63 Connecticut College women's tennis team picked up a 5-2 victory over Nichols College on a warm but breezy Thursday afternoon at the campus tennis courts.
In their first outdoor contest of the season, the Camels took two of three doubles matches and four of six singles matches to sew up the team victory.
Caitlin Cass (Newcastle, Maine) contributed a pair of wins on the day.
Conn secured the doubles point with wins at the No. 1 and 3 positions. Cass and
Evin Cosar (Shrewsbury, Mass.) took care of business at the top spot by a 6-2 final, and
Sana Bhat (New Delhi) and
Marylove Reynolds (Little Rock, Ark.) won by the same tally at the opposite end of the ladder.
In singles action,
Asahi Goods (Putnam Valley, N.Y.) didn't drop a game at the No. 6 spot to get the Camels started off on the right foot. Cass also won in straight sets at the top spot, posting scores of 7-5, 6-3 against Nichols' Kamora Helton.
Maya Kowalska (Feasterville-Trevose, Pa.) and
Mary Ella Prendergast (Mount Pleasant, S.C.) each won their singles matches in three sets. Kowalska battled back from a set down to defeat Pamela Gonzalez by a 2-6, 6-2, 6-2 final at No. 3, and Prendergast won a 10-point tiebreaker to come out on top against Johanna Schroeder at No. 4.
Conn (6-9 overall) will next play at Tufts University on Saturday, April 19 at 2:00 p.m.
