NEW LONDON, Conn. – The No. 56 Connecticut College women's tennis team suffered a 5-2 setback against No. 54 Hamilton College on Saturday morning at Luce Field House.
The Camels picked up wins in three matches on the day—one in doubles and a pair in singles. However, it wasn't enough to top the Continentals, who improved to 7-9 overall and 3-7 in NESCAC play.
Conn's first win came at No. 2 doubles courtesy of
Maya Kowalska (Feasterville-Trevose, Pa.) and
Evin Cosar (Shrewsbury, Mass.). The duo blanked the team of Shannon Cicero and Hannah Walpole by a 6-0 final.
Sana Bhat (New Delhi) and
Marylove Reynolds (Little Rock, Ark.) also put up a fight at No. 3 doubles before falling by a 7-5 tally.
Kowalska supplied another point at No. 3 singles, besting Priyanka Challapalli in three sets. Kowalska raced to a 6-2 win in the opening set but dropped the second in a tiebreaker. She then came out on top in a third-set, 10-point tiebreaker to earn her ninth singles win of the season.
The Camels also picked up a point at No. 6 singles, where
Asahi Goods (Putnam Valley, N.Y.) sailed past Muhan Cui in straight sets. Goods dropped only three games in the match en route to her seventh win of the season.
Following the contest, the Camels honored their four seniors—
Caitlin Cass (Newcastle, Maine),
Kinley Yangden (Thimphu, Bhutan),
Lily Dunne (Longmeadow, Mass.) and
Henrietta Waltz (Lincoln, Mass.)—in a special ceremony.
Conn (6-11 overall, 1-8 NESCAC) will next host Amherst College on Sunday, April 27 at 10:00 a.m.
