Sailing Competes in Busy Weekend of Regattas

NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Connecticut College sailing teams returned to action, competing in four events over the weekend at Boston University, Brown, and MIT.

At Brown, four individuals competed in the NEISA Open Singlehanded Championships. Leading the way for the Camels was Henry Scholz (Lake Forest, Ill.) who finished sixth out of 31 racers. Duncan Craine (Weston, Conn.) finished 23rd, Joseph Whelan (New London, Conn.) finished 28th, and Jake Demos (South Kingston, R.I.) finished 29th.

Brown also hosted the NEISA Women's Singlehanded Championships, where two Camels competed. Natalie Fear (New York, N.Y.) led the way with a 12th place finish out of 15 racers, while Caroline McClaine (Winnetka, Ill.) finished 14th.

At the Hatch Brown Trophy hosted by MIT, Conn finished 11th across three racing divisions. The A division boat featured Skylor Sweet (Bear, Del.) and Sienna Young (Westport, Conn.) who finished 12th in their section. Rory Murray (Nantucket, Mass.) and Vivian Smith (Hastings-on-Hudson, N.Y.) combined in the B division boat finishing eighth, highlighted by a first-place finish in race one. In the final boat for Conn was William Hurd (West Dennis, Mass.) and Madeline Synnestvedt (Cohasset, Mass.) who finished eighth, with a second-place finish in race three.

The final event Conn competed at was the Regis Trophy hosted by Boston University, where the Camels finished 14th across two racing divisions. The division A boat consisted of Lily Saffer (Rye, N.Y.) and Maddie Jarbeau (East Greenwich, R.I.) who finished 16th. Julia Scipione (Hingham, Mass.) and Sophia Rey (Newport, R.I.) combined for the B division boat finishing ninth, highlighted by two top-five finishes.

Conn returns to action next weekend, competing at Brown and Dartmouth.
