Men's Water Polo Plays Three at Brown

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Connecticut College men's water polo team returned to action, competing in three games at Bruno Invite hosted by Brown University.

GAME ONE: Pomona 20, Conn 3

Pomona started quickly jumping out a 5-0 lead six minutes in. Conn ended the run as Topher Cook (West Palm Beach, Fla.) got the Camels on the board. The Sagehens answered with two more goals to lead 7-1 after the first. The second quarter was low scoring with just two goals going to Pomona as Conn trailed 9-1 at the break.

The Sagehens continued their strong play into the second half, using a 7-0 run to push the lead to 16-1. However, Artem Kyselov (Dnipro, Ukraine) beat the buzzer to make it 16-2 heading to the fourth. Pomona opened the final frame with a 3-0 run, before a tally from Jeffrey Harrington (San Diego, Calif.) made it 19-3. The Sagehens added one more goal to earn the 20-3 win.

GAME TWO: Brown 17, Conn 12

Brown started quickly in the middle game of the day for Conn, as the Bears jumped out to a 6-0 lead after the first quarter. The teams were even in the second quarter, as both sides tallied four goals. For Conn, Keegan Kosiba (Birmingham, Mich.) notched two goals, while Harrington and Thomas McDonough (Thousand Oaks, Calif.) chipped in one each, as the Camels trailed 10-4 at the break.

Conn outscored Brown 5-4 in the third quarter. Harrington notched four goals in the frame, while Cook chipped in the fifth, as the Camels trailed 14-9 heading to the fourth. The final frame was even again as both sides notched three goals. Harrington, Carson Neidert (West Palm Beach, Fla.), and Sebastian Parilov (Brooklyn, N.Y.) each found the back of the net once, as the Camels fell 17-12.

GAME THREE: Hopkins 18, Conn 10

The first quarter was a back-and-forth affair as the Camels led 3-2 after one. Hopkins opened the scoring before back-to-back goals from Jesse Ellis (Fresno, Calif.) made it 2-1. The Blue Jays evened the score, but a late tally from Ellis had Conn in front. 

Both offenses came to life in the second frame, as the teams combined for 13 goals. Hopkins tallied nine in the quarter, while Conn got one goal each from Cook, Ellis, Harrington, and McDonough, as the Blue Jays led 11-7 at the break.

The teams were even in the third quarter, with Hopkins outsourcing the Camels 4-3 in the frame. Conn got goals from Zach Dixon (Wayne, Pa.), Harrington, and McDonough to trail 15-10 heading to the fourth. Hopkins tallied the final three goals of the contest, all coming in the fourth quarter to come away with the 18-10 win.

Conn returns to action on Sunday, Oct. 12 as the Camels travel to New Rochelle, N.Y. to take on Iona at 3:00 p.m.
