Lileika's Two Goals Lead Women's Hockey Past Manhattanville 3-1

PURCHASE, N.Y. – Maya Lileika (Fairfield, Conn.) scored her first two career goals to lead the Connecticut College women's ice hockey team to a 3-1 win over Manhattanville on Tuesday afternoon from the Playland Ice Casino.

The teams started stro:ng as both squads recorded three shots in the opening five minutes. Conn opened the scoring at 8:31 as Lileika recorded her first career goal. Sasha Goldberg (Phoenixville, Pa.) and Katelyn Barcza (Eagle, Colo.) both had shots stopped, but the rebound fell to Lileika who tapped home to make it 1-0. Five minutes later, the Camels doubled the advantage as Bridget McGann (West Hartford, Conn.) fired a shot over the shoulder of Olivia Cimorelli off assists from Elizabeth Bonner (Westfield, N.J.) and Caitlyn O'Donnell (Revere, Mass.) as Conn led 2-0 after one.

Manhattanville had a chance to cut into the deficit five minutes into the period after earning a power play, but Jillian Wexler (Plainsboro, N.J.) and the Camels defense held strong. However, midway through the frame the Valiants cut the deficit to one as Jada Mackinnon got Manhattanville on the board. Conn had the better chances for the remainder of the period, but were unable to extend the lead, as the Camels stayed in front 2-1 heading to the third.

Conn came out strong to start the final period and extended the lead just under six minutes in. Lileika pulled a puck from along the boards and drove to the net, firing past Cimorelli to make it 3-1. The Valiants upped the pressure, looking to cut the deficit again, but Wexler remained sharp in goal. Conn shut down the Manhattanville attack over the final minutes to close out the 3-1 victory.

Conn outshot Manhattanville 30-28, while holding a 32-21 advantage on face-off wins.

Wexler was sharp in net, picking up the win and recording 27 saves. Lileika paced the Camels with two goals, while McGann added the third tally, as Barcza, Bonner, Sofia Donnelly (Ringwood, N.J.), and O'Donnell each added one assist. Serena Seiple (Wilmette, Ill.) led the way with 14 face-off wins, while Ashley Engle (Basking Ridge, N.J.) added 13, as Conn finished 4-4 on the penalty kill and 0-1 on the power play.

Cimorelli got the start in goal notching 27 saves. Mackinnon paced the Valiants with the lone goal, while Manhattanville went 0-4 on the power play and 1-1 on the penalty kill.

Conn (6-4-2, 2-3-1 NESCAC) returns home for a weekend series against #12 Colby, with game one scheduled for 7:00 p.m. Friday night in Dayton Arena.
