NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Connecticut College women's ice hockey team returned home, falling to #12 Colby 3-0 on Friday night from Dayton Arena.
Colby opened the game on the front foot, forcing two saves from Devon Galizio (Wayland, Mass.) within the opening minute. Conn responded with their first shot of the game at 5:47 as Sydney Frank (Stillwater, N.Y.) was denied by Ally Martiniello. Just past the midway point of the period, the Mules earned a power play and capitalized on the woman-advantage. Allie Corrieri fired a shot home at 13:33 to send Colby into the first intermission in front 1-0.
The Camels came out quick to start the middle frame as Christine Oar (Scituate, Mass.) was stopped at 1:52, before Jess Pistorino (Charlestown, Mass.) hit the post. However, two minutes later the Mules doubled the advantage as Cailyn Murphy snuck a shot home to make it 2-0. Conn upped the pressure as the period went on, and strung together some zone time late in the period but both Emma Peterson (Westwood, Mass.) and Sofia Donnelly (Ringwood, N.J.) were denied by Martiniello as the Camels trailed 2-0 heading to the third.
Colby tacked on an insurance marker just 38 seconds into the third period, as Courtney Schumacher converted on a Mules power play. Conn continued pressing looking to get on to the board, but they were unable to solve Martiniello and the Mules, falling 3-0.
Colby outshot Conn 42-10, while holding a 22-18 edge on face-off wins.
Galizio got the start in goal, recording 31 saves in just over 47 minutes of action, before Alex Erdman (Lutherville, Md.) closed out the game making eight saves. Serena Seiple (Wilmetter, Ill.) led the way with nine face-off wins, while Elizabeth Bonner (Westfield, N.J.) had a team-high four blocked shots. Conn finished 0-1 on the power play and 2-4 on the penalty kill.
Martiniello got the win in net stopping all 10 shots. Corrieri led Colby with two points on a goal and an assist, while six other Mules tallied one point. Colby finished 1-1 on the penalty kill and 2-4 on the power play.
