CLINTON, N.Y. – The Connecticut College men's hockey team continued their road trip falling to #4 Hamilton 6-0 on Saturday afternoon from Russell Sage Rink.
Hamilton started quickly, opening the scoring just 2:28 in, off a goal from Clarence Bletz. The teams traded chances, before the Continentals earned a power play midway through the period and converted on Ben Zimmerman's tally. Carson Hall added a short-handed goal at 16:30 to put Hamilton up 3-0 after one.
Conn earned a power play early in the middle frame, but both Rocco Testa-Basi (Ottawa, Ontario) and Ryan McKenna (Garden City, N.Y.) were denied by Aksel Reid. The Camels continued their strong play throughout the period, but were unable to breakthrough, as they trailed 3-0 heading to the third.
Zimmerman converted on another power play for the Continentals just 33 seconds into the period to push the lead to 4-0. Just three minutes later, the lead got extended further as Vincent Gould found the back of the net. Midway through the frame, Hamilton tacked on another power play from Luke Tchor to make it 6-0. Conn tried to get on the board down the stretch, but were unable to beat Reid, falling 6-0.
Hamilton outshot Conn 38-24, while holding a slim 30-29 edge on face-off wins.
Will McEvoy (Ottawa, Ontario) got the start in goal and finished with 20 saves, before being replaced by Primo Baldassarre (Glenolden, Pa.) who made 12 saves. Will Lawrence (Bethesda, Md.) led Conn with six shots on goal, while Arty Mirante (Garden City, N.Y.) won a team-high nine face-offs, as Conn went 5-8 on the penalty kill and 0-4 on the power play.
Reid got the win in net, stopping all 24 shots. Zimmerman led Hamilton with three points on two goals and one assist, while nine other Continentals tallied at least one point. Hamilton went 3-8 on the power play and 4-4 on the penalty kill.
Conn (6-7-1, 2-5-1 NESCAC) continues their road trip on Friday night as the Camels travel to Hartford, Conn. to take on Trinity at 7:00 p.m.
