CLINTON, N.Y. – The Connecticut College women's ice hockey team battled tough but ultimately fell short, as the Camels fell to host Hamilton 1-0 on Friday night from Russell Sage Rink.
The opening 10 minutes were back-and-forth as each team recorded five shots, but both Devon Galizio (Wayland, Mass.) and Teagan Brown were sharp in net early. Conn earned the first power play of the contest with just under nine minutes remaining, but the Camels were unable to capitalize on the woman-advantage. Hamilton had some good looks at goal over the final minutes, but Galizio held strong as the game remained scoreless after one.
The Continentals started the middle frame strong and found the ice breaker at 7:12. Lilly Truchon threw a puck towards the net that bounced off Lydia Bullock and in to make it 1-0. Conn upped the pressure, tallying five shots in the final two minutes. The Camels nearly tied it with 20 seconds left, but Ashley Engle (Basking Ridge, N.J.) was robbed by Brown as Conn trailed 1-0 heading to the third.
Conn controlled play for much of the third period as the Camels looked to even the score. With seven and a half minutes left, Conn earned a power play and a great chance to even the score. However, with the extra skater, the Camels were again denied by Brown. In the dying moments, the Camels pulled Galizio for the extra attacker but could not break through, falling 1-0.
Hamilton outshot Conn 29-22, holding a slim 27-23 edge on face-off wins.
Galizio was solid in net, finishing with 28 saves. Casey Chesner (Great Falls, Va.) and Jess Pistorino (Charlestown, Mass.) paced the Camels with four shots on goal. Serena Seiple (Wilmette, Ill.) led the way with 10 face-off wins as Conn finished 0-2 on the power play and did not take any penalties.
Brown got the win in net, stopping all 22 shots. Bullock tallied the lone goal, while Truchon and Cuora Sullivan both added one assist. Hamilton finished 2-2 on the penalty kill and did not have any power plays.
Conn (6-7-2, 2-6-1 NESCAC) closes out the weekend series with Hamilton tomorrow afternoon with puck drop scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
