MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – The Connecticut College women's ice hockey team rallied from an early 2-0 deficit, but ultimately fell 3-2 in overtime to host Wesleyan on Friday night from Spurrier-Snyder Rink.
The teams traded chances early, but it was Wesleyan that broke the ice as Carly Ward made it 1-0 at 11:36. Conn had a few chances down the stretch in the period, but were unable to get on the board, trailing 2-0 after one.
Conn opened the middle frame with an early power play and capitalized. Christine Oar (Scituate, Mass.) connected with Elizabeth Bonner (Westfield, N.J.) who fired to Lily Stern (Nove Zamky, Slovakia) who scored to make it 2-1. Conn kept pushing, looking for the tying goal, but were unable to beat Sami Smith. However, just past the midway point, Conn evened it up. Charlotte Harris (Ystrad Mynach, Wales) fired home off an assist from Casey Chesner (Great Falls, Va.) to make it 2-2. The Camels had a late chance to win it in regulation, earning a power play with three and a half minutes left, but Conn was unable to convert, as the game headed to overtime tied at two.
Wesleyan took advantage early in the extra session, winning the opening face-off. Just a minute in, Aimed Seppenwolde was sprung on a breakaway with the initial shot being stopped by Devon Galizio (Wayland, Mass.) but it ultimately rolled in, giving the Cardinals the 3-2 win.
