Women's Hockey Stumped by Wesleyan

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – The Connecticut College women's ice hockey team came up short, falling to host Wesleyan 4-1 on Saturday afternoon from Spurrier-Snyder Rink.

Conn started quickly, recording seven of the first 10 shots, but were unable to open the scoring. At the midway point of the period, Wesleyan earned a power play and capitalized as Aimee Seppenwolde scored to make it 1-0 at 10:40. The Camels earned a power play shortly after, but were unable to convert, trailing 1-0 after the first.

Conn earned an early power play in the middle frame, but the Camels were denied by Jenna Guglielmi. The teams traded chances before the Cardinals had a late power play opportunity, but Devon Galizio shut the door, as Conn headed to the third down 1-0.

Wesleyan extended the lead just over five minutes into the third period, as Kimberly Jung made it 2-0. Four minutes later, Conn finally got on the board, as the Camels converted on a power play. Emma Peterson (Westwood, Mass.) found the back of the net, as Charlotte Harris (Ystrad Mynach, Wales) and Sofia Polizzi (Brooklyn, N.Y.) picked up the assists, making it 2-1.

Conn pulled Galizio for the extra skater with three and a half minutes left, but were called for a penalty with just under two to play. Wesleyan capitalized on the woman-advantage to make it 3-1, before adding a goal in the dying seconds to come away with the 4-1 win.

Conn outshot Wesleyan 37-29, while holding a 36-22 edge on face-off wins.

Galizio got the start in net, finishing with 25 saves. Peterson tallied the lone goal for Conn, as Harris and Polizzi each added an assist. Serena Seiple (Wilmette, Ill.) led the way with 16 face-off wins, as the Camels finished 1-6 on the power play and 2-4 on the penalty kill.

Guglielmi got the win in goal, recording 36 saves. Amelia Molin led the way with two points, while nine other Cardinals tallied one point. Wesleyan finished 2-4 on the power play and 5-6 on the penalty kill.
