BOSTON, Mass. – The Connecticut College women's soccer team scored three goals in the final 11 minutes to run away with a 5-0 win over host Emmanuel College on Wednesday night from Roberto Clemente Field.
Conn opened the contest quickly, as Blessing Kieh (Monrovia, Liberia) forced a save from Teigan Robie just 75 seconds into the contest. Just over five minutes later, the Camels opened the scoring.
Kieh was released by a through ball down the near sideline, working into the box and firing a low cross in front of the goal. The ball got past Robie, and the Emmanuel clearing effort was redirected into the goal to make it 1-0 at 6:33.
Conn remained on the front foot, as Morgan Lovell (Franklin, Mass.) was stopped by Robie a minute later. The Saints grew into the opening 45 minutes, and recorded their first shot at 19:43, but Maia Kafer (Philadelphia, Pa.) came up with the save.
Just over 10 minutes later, Emmanuel generated another opportunity, but again Kafer came up with the stop, this time on Kayla Silveira. The teams traded possession over the final minutes, but the Camels took the 1-0 lead into the break.
The Saints opened the second half with a couple of early chances, but were unable to solve Kafer and the Camels defense. Seven and a half minutes in, Conn doubled the advantage. Lovell put a cross into the box that deflected off the hands of Robie and onto the foot of Chloe Koubel (Westbury, N.Y.) who fired home to make it 2-0 at 52:36.
The Camels continued to put pressure on Emmanuel, finding a third goal with just over 10 minutes remaining. Zola Alcaro (Norwell, Mass.) delivered a corner into the Saints box that Kieh and Maya Griffin (Madison, Wis.) were able to get to Virginia Head (Acton, Mass.) who slotted the ball into the net to make it 3-0.
Conn tacked on a fourth goal just under four minutes later, as Myla Berrien (Trumbull, Conn.) played Griffin in on goal who calmly potted the ball home to make it 4-0. The Camels added one more goal with just over two minutes remaining, as Griffin picked up her second goal off assists from Evan Millard (Cincinnati, Ohio) and Kieh, to give Conn the 5-0 victory.
Conn outshot Emmanuel 22-10 overall, including 13-5 on shots on goal, while holding an 8-5 edge on corner kicks.
Kafer picked up her second consecutive clean sheet, finishing with five saves. Griffin paced the Camels attack with five points on two goals and one assist. Kieh added two assists, while Head and Koubel both notched one goal, with Berrien and Millard chipping in one assist each.
Robie got the start in net, finishing with nine saves for the Saints.
Conn (5-5-1, 2-4-1 NESCAC) returns to action on Saturday as the Camels wrap up non-conference action at Bridgewater State at 3:30 p.m. in Bridgewater, Mass.
