Field Hockey Powers Past Dean

FRANKLIN, Mass. – The Connecticut College field hockey team powered to a 4-0 victory over Dean College on Monday afternoon in non-conference action at Grant Field.

Serena Moore (Houston, Texas) scored a pair of goals in the first half and Elizabeth Bonner (Westfield, N.J.) and Maddie Mason (Brentwood, N.H.) added tallies in the second as the Camels picked up their third shutout in four games. Isabella Carnall (Malvern, Pa.) and Katie Dickson (Ridgefield, Conn.) combined for the clean sheet and each played 30 minutes in goal.

Conn dominated the opening half on both sides of the field. The Camels racked up a 14-0 advantage in total shots and put 10 on goal before the halftime whistle.

Moore's first marker came just 11:02 into the game. She collected a ball in the midfield and dribbled into the scoring area, where she unleashed a shot inside the left post for her second goal of the season.

In the second quarter, Moore made it a 2-0 game with 6:56 left in the half. She took a pass from the wing and slapped a shot into the right-corner of the cage, cementing her third goal of the year and the first multi-goal game of her career.

Conn scored twice in the third quarter to break the game open. The first goal came off a penalty corner that saw Bonner deflect a rip by Sadie Gearan (Lynnfield, Mass.) for her fourth tally of the season. Nearly two minutes later, Mason cashed in a penalty stroke for her second goal of the year.

Dickson made a season-high seven saves in the second half to keep the Bulldogs off the scoreboard. She has yet to allow a goal in 75 minutes of work this season.

Dean (10-6 overall) got a solid effort from goalie Sara Gardner, who faced 26 total shots and finished with 14 saves.

Conn (5-7 overall) will next play at Johnson & Wales University on Wednesday, October 21 at 6:00 p.m.
