NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Connecticut College women's soccer team bounced back with a 2-0 over visiting Bowdoin on Saturday afternoon as the Camels celebrated senior day on Freeman Field.
Conn started quickly, opening the scoring just 3:41 into the contest. Morgan Lovell (Franklin, Mass.) played a low cross into the box, finding Chloe Koubel (Westbury, N.Y.) who was open on the back post. Koubel took a touch and fired low back across goal to make it 1-0.
The Camels continued to put pressure on Bowdoin as both Claire Chace (Bristol, R.I.) and Koubel forced saves from Natalie Cooke over the next six minutes. The Polar Bears finally got their first shot in the 12th minute, but Maia Kafer (Philadelphia, Pa.) came up with the save. The teams traded chances over the rest of the half, but Conn led 1-0 at the break.
Both squads tallied a shot in the opening five minutes, but both Kafer and Cooke came up with a save in their respective nets. With just under 30 minutes left, the Camels doubled their lead.
Mae Mastrullo (Hudson, Mass.) played a long ball that Danica Zicha (Belmont, Mass.) was able to run onto at the top of the box. Zicha worked her way in and fired low to the far post to make it 2-0.
Bowdoin tried to respond with pressure, but the Conn defense was stout throughout the afternoon, only allowing one shot attempt in the final 30 minutes, as the Camels came away with the 2-0 win.
Conn outshot Bowdoin 14-10, including 7-4 on shots on goal, while holding a 6-2 edge on corner kicks.
Kafer picked up the clean sheet between the sticks, finishing with four saves. Koubel and Zicha both tallied a goal, while Lovell and Mastrullo chipped in an assist each.
Cooke got the start in net, tallying five saves for the Polar Bears.
Conn (7-6-1, 3-5-1 NESCAC) closes out the regular season on Tuesday afternoon as the Camels host Wesleyan at 4:00 p.m. on Freeman Field.
