WATERVILLE, Maine – Connecticut College recorded three podium finishes on Saturday night at the 2026 NESCAC Men's Swimming & Diving Championships at Colby College's Aquatic Center.
Conn racked up 381 points on the day and moved from fifth to fourth in the standings. The Camels, with 796 points through three days of competition, trail only Tufts (1,198), Williams (1,168) and Amherst (894) and hold an eight-point lead over Bates.
Evan Lyons (Longmeadow, Mass.) led the charge with a pair of podium finishes, winning the 1,000 free (9:10.55) and taking second in the 400 IM (3:57.42).
Carrick Shea (Grafton, Mass.) also picked up a runner-up finish in the 100 breast (53.04), earning his second individual podium finish of the weekend.
After the Camels posted a seventh-place finish in the 200 medley relay to open the night, Lyons took center stage for the final heat of the 1,000 free. He took over the lead at the 200-yard mark and spent the rest of the race building a buffer. He touched the wall 2.5 seconds before any other swimmer and broke his own school record in the process, becoming the first Camel to win a NESCAC title in the event.
Campbell Noel (Austin, Texas) and
Jack Mattison-Gulotta (Florence, Mass.) also took part in the final heat of the 1,000 free. Noel finished fourth (9:16.85) while Mattison-Gulotta placed seventh (9:23.19).
Less than 20 minutes later, Lyons was back in the pool for the final of the 400 IM. He sat in eighth place at the midway point of the race but came alive in the back half, climbing two spots with splits of 33.77 and 33.87 during the breaststroke portion. He then made up four more spots in the freestyle, overtaking three competitors in the final 50 yards to close out his night.
Shea, one of two Camels in the final of the 100 breast, shaved more than three-tenths of a second off his morning preliminary time and broke his own school record. He had the tall task of chasing down Bates' Marrich Somridhivej, who broke the NESCAC record en route to victory.
Julian Carlson (Brookline, Mass.) also turned in a strong swim for the Camels and finished seventh (55.29).
Cam Bizjak (Willoughby, Ohio) and
Landon Luzak (Virginia Beach, Va.) both qualified for the final of the 3M dive. Bizjak finished fourth (477.95) and picked up his second NCAA 'B' cut of the weekend, and Luzak placed seventh (378.40) in his second final in as many nights.
Aiden Miller (Westfield, N.J.) competed in the final of the 200 free (1:39.66) for the second straight year and finished seventh.
Dawson Rice (Wilbraham, Mass.) also won the consolation final of the 100 back (50.19) and placed ninth overall.
Sunday's morning session begins at 10:00 a.m. and will feature the preliminaries of the 200 back, 100 free, 200 breast, 200 fly and 1,650 free.
