Game Recap: Men's Ice Hockey |

Men's Ice Hockey Denied by Tufts

NEW LONDON, Conn.  – The Connecticut College men's hockey team wrapped up their home-and-home with Tufts University, falling to the Jumbos 3-0 on Saturday night from Dayton Arena.

The teams traded chances over the opening three minutes before Tufts opened the scoring at 3:28. Rocco Testa-Basi (Ottawa, Ontario) was stopped by Gus Bylin at one end, before the Jumbos quickly countered as Marcus Sang made it 1-0.

Conn had a great chance to tie the game with just under eight minutes remaining in the period as the Camels earned a power play. On the ensuing man-advantage, Pete Stanger's (Bathurst, New Brunswick) shot from the point struck the post and stayed out. Conn earned another power play late in the frame, but were unable to capitalize, as the Camels trailed 1-0 after one.

Conn opened the middle frame on the front foot, as Quinn Kennedy (Silver Spring, Md.) had two early shots stopped by Bylin. Nearing the midway point of the period, the Camels again thought they tied the game on the power play, but this time William Tripp () struck the iron, as the puck somehow stayed out, keeping the score 1-0. The teams traded chances for the rest of the period, as Tufts took the 1-0 lead into the third.

Just three minutes into the final period, the Jumbos doubled their advantage. Jameson Klein's point shot was redirected by Brendan Fennell to make it 2-0 at 2:58. Conn continued to push, looking to cut into the deficit, but were unable to solve Bylin. With just under three minutes left, the Camels pulled Will McEvoy (Ottawa, Ontario) for the extra attacker, but Drew Pitts scored into the empty cage to give Tufts the 3-0 win.

Conn outshot Tufts 28-23, holding a 26-24 edge on face-offs.

McEvoy got the start in goal, finishing with 20 saves. Kennedy paced Conn with four shots on goal, while Andrew Eberling (Mount Laurel, N.J.) and Stanger both added three. Matt Lewis (Pembroke, Mass.) led the way with eight face-off wins, as Conn finished 0-3 on the power play and did not take any penalties.

Bylin got the win in net, stopping all 28 shots. Fennell, Sang, and Pitts led the way with a goal each, as Tufts went 3-3 on the penalty kill and did not earn any power plays.

Conn (8-11-1, 4-9-1 NESCAC) continues their home stand next weekend, as the Camels host Amherst at 7:00 p.m. on Friday night in Dayton Arena.
