NEW LONDON, Conn. — The Connecticut College men's tennis team opened the spring season with a 5-2 victory over Wheaton College on Sunday afternoon at Luce Field House.
The Camels rode a pair of 6-4 wins in doubles and four straight-set triumphs in singles to move to 2-1 on the season. Wheaton dropped to 2-2 overall with the setback.
The Camels captured the doubles point with wins on courts two and three.
Noa Hoshino (Tokyo, Japan) and
Sigmund Winiecki (Jaffrey, N.H.) posted a 6-4 decision over Jake Murray and Calvin Van Dyke, while
Tucker Catalano (Duxbury, Mass.) and
Nikolai Kahrs (Oslo, Norway) clinched the point with a 6-4 win against Paul Berteaux and Pablo Muñoz. Wheaton took the top flight as Jaime Galligo and Landon Wyshner edged
Nikhil Agarwal (San Mateo, Calif.) and
Wolf Sohlberg (Espoo, Finland) 7-6 in a tiebreak.
In singles, Conn's depth proved decisive as Agarwal rolled past Muñoz by a 6-2, 6-0 final at No. 2, and Hoshino matched the score line in a win over Berteaux at No. 4. Catalano added a 6-2, 6-2 result over Van Dyke at No. 5, and Kahrs closed out Murray 7–5, 6–1 at No. 6 to seal the team victory.
Conn will next host Middlebury College on Saturday, March 7 at 10:00 a.m.
