ORLANDO, Fla. — The Connecticut College men's tennis team opened its spring break trip with a pair of losses on Wednesday at the USTA National Campus, falling 6-1 to Ohio Northern University and 5-2 to East Texas Baptist University.
The Camels posted wins at No. 3 doubles and No. 2 singles in the morning match against ONU. The duo of
Tucker Catalano (Duxbury, Mass.) and
Kalevi Kaukonen (Mill Valley, Calif.)—playing together for the first time—picked up 6-4 victory over Noah Ehret and Kessler Hackenberger. In singles,
Wolf Sohlberg (Espoo, Finland) split sets with Tyler Wood before winning 12-10 in a tiebreak, and both
Nikhil Agarwal (San Mateo, Calif.) and
Noa Hoshino (Tokyo, Japan) lost in tiebreaks.
Later in the evening, Agarwal and
Arjun Premkumar (Bangalore, India) earned points at the top singles spots. Agarwal ground out a 6-2, 6-7, 7-6 win at No. 1 while Premkumar rallied from a set down to win 6-7, 6-2, 7-5 at No. 2.
Conn (2-5 overall) will next play Calvin University and Midland University on Friday, March 13 at 7:30 a.m. and 11:00 a.m., respectively.
