PANAMA CITY BEACH, Fla. – The Connecticut College women's lacrosse team opened up their spring break trip, falling to Hamilton 12-4 from Publix Field.
The opening quarter was cagey, as Hamilton opened the scoring just over four minutes in off a tally from Grace MacLean. Conn answered 43 seconds later, as Campbell Johnston (Duxbury, Mass.) got the Camels on the board. The Continentals notched the final two goals of the quarter to lead 3-1 after one.
Johnston earned a free-position shot just 33 seconds into the second quarter and converted to make it 3-2. Hamilton responded with a 5-0 run to take a 8-2 lead. Conn answered back with just under three minutes remaining as Caroline Villarin (Duxbury, Mass.) hit the back of the net on a woman-up free-position shot, as the Camels trailed 8-3 at the half.
Conn struck first just over five minutes into the second half as Hannah Prescott (North Attleboro, Mass.) found Villarin for a women-up goal to cut the deficit to 8-4. Hamilton ended the game on a 4-0 run to come away with the 12-4 win.
Hamilton outshot Conn 29-18, while the Camels won 11 of 18 draws..
Ava Virga (Watertown, N.Y.) got the start in the cage, recording nine saves. Johnston and Villarin both tallied two goals, while Prescott added an assist.
Conn scooped up 10 ground balls, with Kate Coughlin (Reading, Mass.) scooping up two, while Hannah Merrit (Cheshire, Conn.) controlled a game-high six draws.
Eliza Schwarz got the win in goal, tallying nine saves. MacLean and Sophia Wright both led the way with four points, while six other Continentals recorded at least one point.
Conn (2-2, 0-2 NESCAC) returns to action on Wednesday in Panama City Beach, Fla. against #11 Denison at 8:00 p.m. EDT.
