ORLANDO, Fla. — The Connecticut College women's tennis team earned a 5-2 victory over the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor on Sunday at Sanlando Park.
The Camels rode a fast start in doubles and a strong top-of-the-lineup performance in singles to close its spring trip on a high note. Conn went 2-2 on the trip and moved to 4-5 overall on the season.
The Camels captured the doubles point with wins on courts one and three. The top tandem of
Maya Kowalska (Feasterville-Trevose, Pa.) and
Mary Ella Prendergast (Mount Pleasant, S.C.) set the tone with a 6-2 decision over UMHB's Jolin Ha and Bailee Lane. On court three,
Sana Bhat (New Delhi) and
Teagan Skulley (Middleton, Mass.) delivered in a tight finish, edging Lori Bryan and Avery Williams, 7-5.
In singles, Kowalska backed up her doubles result with a commanding 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 1 over Ha. Conn stacked up the remaining points across the middle of the lineup to clinch, with Prendergast and
Asahi Goods (Putnam Valley, N.Y.) winning in tiebreaks at No. 2 and 3, respectively, while
Lily Kerachsky (East Greenwich, R.I.) prevailed in straight sets at No. 4.
Conn was originally scheduled for a match against Franklin and Marshall College on Sunday, but rain forced a cancellation.
