NEW LONDON, Conn. — The Connecticut College women's tennis team fell by a 6–1 final against Smith College on Monday evening at Luce Field House.
The Bears swept the doubles point behind a tight victory at the top spot, where Ava Emrich and Heidi Cambron edged
Maya Kowalska (Feasterville-Trevose, Pa.) and
Mary Ella Prendergast (Mount Pleasant, S.C.) in a tiebreak, 7–6. Smith added wins at No. 2 (6-4) and No. 3 (6-3) doubles to take a 1–0 lead.
In singles, Kowalska battled to three sets at No. 1 before dropping a 6-3, 3-6, 6-4 decision to Ayla Hauser in one of the night's best matchups. First-year
Sydney Concepcion (Long Beach, Calif.) delivered the Camels' lone point with a straight-sets win at No. 6 over Tabitha Bastress, 6-1, 6-3. Smith secured straight-set victories on the remaining courts to pick up five points in singles action.
Conn (2-1 overall) will next host Middlebury College on Saturday, March 7 at 2:00 p.m.
