Sailing Continues Strong Spring With Victory at Vietor Trophy

NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Connecticut College sailing teams continued their strong spring season, claiming victory at the Vietor Trophy, while finishing fourth at the Callahan Trophy, and 11th at the Marchiando Trophy.

At the Vietor Trophy, Conn claimed victory recording 145 points across two racing divisions, 13 ahead of second-place Florida State. The A division boat, won four races and scored 76 points, as Duncan Craine (Weston, Conn.) skippered the boat, with Grace Popp (Greenwich, Conn.) joining the crew. The B division boat added another win, along with five other top-three finishes to score 69 points, as Keegan Chatburn (Lake Forest, Ill.) skippered the boat, with Finley Regan (Bay Shore, N.Y.), Sienna Young (Westport, Conn.), and Griffin Stead (Vineyard Haven, Mass.) sharing the crew duties.

At the Callahan Trophy, Conn finished fourth, winning two of nine races. The Camels claimed victories over Coast Guard and Northeastern, as Lily Saffer (Rye, N.Y.), Natalie Fear (New York, N.Y.), and Julia Scipione (Hingham, Mass.) were the skippers, while Cecilia Roe (New Rochelle, N.Y.), June Roe (New Rochelle, N.Y.), Alex Daigle (East Falmouth, Mass.), Maddie Jarbeau (East Greenwich, R.I.), and Young rounded out the crews.

At the Marchiando Trophy, Conn finished 11th, after tying with MIT, but having a better score when the teams met. The Camels won six of 17 races, with William Hurd (West Dennis, Mass.), Skylor Sweet (Bear, Del.), and Henry Scholz (Lake Forest, Ill.) skippering the three boats, with Charlotte McDonald (Portland, Maine), Madeline Synnestvedt (Cohasset, Mass.), and Vivian Smith (Hastings-on-Hudson, N.Y.) pulling crew duties.

Conn returns to action next weekend, hosting the Emily Wick Fleet Race at Kohn Waterfront and racing at Brown University.
