Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Camels Come Up Short at No. 14 Bates

LEWISTON, Maine – The Connecticut College men's lacrosse team suffered a 19-11 setback against No. 14 Bates College on Saturday afternoon at Garcelon Field.

Jack Goldbach netted a game-high five goals to lead the Bobcats, who improved to 9-4 on the season and 5-4 in league action. Andrew Toland made eight saves to pick up the win in goal.

Matthew Sofarelli (Jupiter, Fla.) paced the Camels with four goals and an assist, and Isaiah Kozub (Wilbraham, Mass.) and Liam Horkan (Malden, Mass.) each chipped in a pair of scores. Patrick Hogan (Wyckoff, N.J.) faced 52 shots in the cage and finished with 13 saves.

The Camels fell behind 3-0 in the opening minutes but got on the scoreboard thanks to an unassisted effort by Andrew Rainville (Watertown, Conn.). Ryan Breheny (Bridgewater, Mass.) and Sofarelli also added tallies before the quarter was through, but Bates still led 6-3 at the end of the period.

The Bobcats outscored the Camels 7-2 in the second stanza en route to a 13-5 advantage at the break. Horkan supplied a goal and an assist in the frame while Sofarelli also chipped in a marker.

Bates scored the first three goals of the second half to take its largest lead at 16-5 with 7:59 to go in the third. The Camels responded with five straight tallies—three to end the third quarter, and the first two of the fourth—to cut the deficit to six with 12:42 remaining. Kozub and Sofarelli each contributed a pair of goals during the stretch.

The Bobcats tamped down any thoughts of a Conn comeback with the next three goals, two of which came off the stick of Goldbach. Hugh Gates (Mill Valley, Calif.) added a score for the Camels in the final minutes.

Conn (5-7 overall, 1-7 NESCAC) will next host Bowdoin College on Saturday, April 18 at 12:00 p.m.
