Sailing Claims Fifth Place at Oberg Trophy

NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Connecticut College sailing teams returned to action racing at the Thompson Trophy hosted by Coast Guard and the Oberg Trophy hosted by Northeastern.

At Northeastern, Conn finished fifth out of 18 teams, scoring 314 points across three racing divisions, six points ahead of Boston University in sixth. In the A division boat, the Camels finished tied for fourth with Florida State on 94 points, but held the head-to-head tiebreaker, with Rory Murray (Nantucket, Mass.) and Charlotte McDonald (Portland, Maine) racing in the boat. Keegan Chatburn (Lake Forest, Ill.) and Grace Popp (Greenwich, Conn.) teamed up in the B division boat, scoring 124 points, as Maxwell Connor (Darien, Conn.) and Griffin Stead (Vineyard Haven, Mass.) finished fifth in the C division, totaling 96 points.

At Coast Guard, Conn finished 14th out of 16 teams, winning four of 15 races. The Camels picked up wins over the Coast Guard, the Naval Academy, MIT, and Tufts. Henry Scholz (Lake Forest, Ill.) and Skylor Sweet (Bear, Del.) each skippered all 15 races, while William Hurd (West Dennis, Mass.) and Duncan Craine (Weston, Conn.) split the skipper duties in the third boat. Vivian Smith (Hastings-on-Hudson, N.Y.) and Maddie Synnestvedt (Cohasset, Mass.) joined Scholz and Sweet in competing in every race, while Alex Daigle (East Falmouth, Mass.) and Tatem Gee (Burlingame, Calif.) split action in the third boat.

Conn returns to action next weekend, racing at Brown and at Coast Guard.
